Direction

The most important thing in a project of this scale is to stay on course. That’s why we’ve defined our four cardinal points.

Discover them in this section!

This website is for informational and educational purposes only.
It does not imply the approval of any specific project nor the authorization of the introduction of species, which, if applicable, would require specific administrative procedures, environmental assessment, and public participation in accordance with current regulations.

N

Local community

Northgrippian Park will only become a reality with the broad support of the residents of Candeleda and El Raso. Our goal is to develop a project that brings value to the municipality, respects its traditions, strengthens its economy, and contributes to its long-term vision. For this reason, we are firmly committed to moving forward only if we have the backing of the community and its public representatives.
Northgrippian Park was created to contribute — and it will only continue if that is the will of its people.

E

Regional Park

Most rewilding projects take place on private land due to the administrative complexity involved in carrying out initiatives of this kind. Northgrippian Park is a more ambitious project that seeks to break this pattern by embracing a model that integrates and benefits public land. To make this possible, close collaboration with the protected area of Parque Regional de la Sierra de Gredos —managed by the Junta de Castilla y León— will be essential.

W

Associations

We are eager to draw on the knowledge and experience of conservation organizations specializing in rewilding projects, such as Rewilding Europe. Their support is essential to driving the initiative forward, both through their technical expertise and their ability to facilitate access to dedicated funding —such as the European Wildlife Comeback Fund— that supports projects of this kind.

S

Researchers

One of the main criticisms of rewilding within conservation biology is the high level of uncertainty surrounding the effects of reintroducing species that disappeared long ago —in some cases, thousands of years ago. Northgrippian Park aims to become a leading research hub capable of attracting international talent to study, in depth, the ecology and implications of this type of intervention.

As of today, this project is supported by:
